Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life - > Get it NoW !

Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life By Steve Martin

Product Description
At age 10, Steve Martin got a job selling guidebooks at the newly opened Disneyland. In the decade that followed, he worked in Disney's magic shop, print shop, and theater, and developed his own magic/comedy act. By age 20, studying poetry and philosophy on the side, he was performing a dozen times a week, most often at the Disney rival, Knott's Berry Farm. Obsession is a substitute for talent, he has said, and Steve Martin's focus and daring--his sheer tenacity--are truly stunning. He writes about making the very tough decision to sacrifice everything not original in his act, and about lucking into a job writing for The Smothers Brothers Show. He writes about mentors, girlfriends, his complex relationship with his parents and sister, and about some of his great peers in comedy--Dan Ackroyd, Lorne Michaels, Carl Reiner, Johnny Carson. He writes about fear, anxiety and loneliness. And he writes about how he figured out what worked on stage.
This book is a memoir, but it is also an illuminating guidebook to stand-up from one of our two or three greatest comedians. Though Martin is reticent about his personal life, he is also stunningly deft, and manages to give readers a feeling of intimacy and candor. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs collected by Martin, this book is instantly compelling visually and a spectacularly good read.

Customer Reviews
Dark Tower saga continues to thrill I bought Stephen King's individual Green Mile books. I wasn't going to buy the individual comics of the backstory of The Gunslinger. I understand now that Robin Furth added content to the individual comics. Ah well! It would be nice to have, but the compilation is just fine without it. If and when I want more background, I can always buy Robin Furth's book about it. I enjoyed the graphic novel. The saga is just amazing in any form, do ya kennit?
Visually Stunning Stephen King possesses a reach extending far past the literary realm. From books to television, his influence is felt almost everywhere. It was only a matter of time before he added comics to his resume. Thus was created Marvel Comics' "The Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born", now available in one hardcover graphic novel edition. King once again enters Mid-World, taking readers to the birth of Roland the Gunslinger. An enthralling, at times painful "coming of age" tale, King pays homage to the ideals of the Wild West, set against the esoteric order of the gunslingers - the protectors of peace, guardians of justice in Mid-World. After discovering treachery in his own family, young Roland and his comrades Alan and Cuthbert are sent on a fact-finding mission to nearby Hambry, to aid the Affiliation in Mid-World's civil war. Meant to be a safe assignment to distract Roland from troubles at home, their journey turns into a dark encounter with not only evil, but a once-in-a-life time love that will shatter Roland's heart. Sacrificing everything for the greater good, Roland forsakes love and unwittingly takes his first step into a hard, unyielding destiny. Seeing King's epic tale in visual format is nothing short of breathtaking. This is a true collector's item for fans of all things "Dark Tower" and Stephen King. As always, his narration is that of a true story-teller, and the art in this collection is fabulous. Hopefully this early tale of Roland the Gunslinger will continue, because `ka' - destiny - turns like a wheel, does it not?
Disappointed While the illustrations are great, the story seems to short and incomplete. It only gives a brief introduction of Mid - World. The rest of the 6 comics are a very short and incomplete version of the story Roland tells in Wizard and Glass. They do not mention the battle of Jerico Hill or the return of Roland to Gilead. I expected much more.

The Secret:2008 Day to Day Calendar This is just great! It gives you either something to contemplate, something to prod you if needed, or something to make you have that one moment of thought for the day. Love it!!!!!
The Secret 2008 Day-to-Day Calendar The quality of the paper, the product and the packaging is disappointingly poor and belies the content which is thoughtful, motivating and concise.
Descent Calendar For The Price I expected a bit more color for the calendar and a better display, however for the price it's not a bad deal. Has a plastic holder and tear-away sheets for each day. All-in-all it was a good buy

The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World By Eric Weiner

Product Description
Part foreign affairs discourse, part humor, and part twisted self-help guide, The Geography of Bliss takes the reader from America to Iceland to India in search of happiness, or, in the crabby author's case, moments of "un-unhappiness." The book uses a beguiling mixture of travel, psychology, science and humor to investigate not what happiness is, but where it is. Are people in Switzerland happier because it is the most democratic country in the world? Do citizens of Singapore benefit psychologically by having their options limited by the government? Is the King of Bhutan a visionary for his initiative to calculate Gross National Happiness? Why is Asheville, North Carolina so damn happy? With engaging wit and surprising insights, Eric Weiner answers those questions and many others, offering travelers of all moods some interesting new ideas for sunnier destinations and dispositions.

Werewolves and Vampires and Fae, Oh My! If you haven't been reading this series stop right now and pick up Moon called (book 1) and Blood Bound (book 2). If you like the paranormal genre I doubt you'll be disappointed. That clarified, Iron Kissed is the third installment in an already popular series. Blood Bound left us with Mercy in danger from the vampires she had worked for and not feeling any comfort regarding her current living situation. With Samuel as her current roomate and Adam still her neighbor the love triangle has certainly not gotten any less pointy around the edges. But who has time for sorting out man troubles when there's a mystery to solve? Enter Mercy's mechanicing mentor, Zee, with some dirty, little fae secrets. There've been a handful of murders out on the Fae reservation and since they govern themselves they don't want the police involved. Sometimes it's better not to have the humans know things- like just how powerful the fae really are. Here Briggs gives us our first real glimpse into the world within a world that are her fae. Mercy sniffs out the murderer and when Zee and Uncle Mike, the bartending fae we met in the last book, go to handle the murderer someone has gotten to him first. Conveniently the police arrive just in time to catch Zee with blood on his hands and he is arrested. From here on out Mercy has to prove Zee's innocence, find the murderer's killer and stop them, and if she's lucky sort out her love triangle. Briggs hits it out of the ballpark again with her original story and world-building, vivid depiction of south-eastern Washington (which she uses greatly as its own character in this series), and of course, making her secondary characters an important part of the book. If you loved Moon Called and Blood Bound you shouldn't miss out on this one! Expect lots of nail-biting suspense and some very satisfying resolution to threads that have carried over from earlier in the series.

Free Lunch - > Get it NoW !

Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and StickYou with the Bill)By David Cay Johnston

Product Description
The bestselling author of Perfectly Legal returns with a powerful new exposé How does a strong and growing economy lend itself to job uncertainty, debt, bankruptcy, and economic fear for a vast number of Americans? Free Lunch provides answers to this great economic mystery of our time, revealing how today’s government policies and spending reach deep into the wallets of the many for the benefit of the wealthy few. Johnston cuts through the official version of events and shows how, under the guise of deregulation, a whole new set of regulations quietly went into effect—regulations that thwart competition, depress wages, and reward misconduct. From how George W. Bush got rich off a tax increase to a $100 million taxpayer gift to Warren Buffett, Johnston puts a face on all of the dirty little tricks that business and government pull. A lot of people appear to be getting free lunches—but of course there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and someone (you, the taxpayer) is picking up the bill. Johnston’s many revelations include:• How we ended up with the most expensive yet inefficient health-care system in the world• How homeowners’ title insurance became a costly, deceitful, yet almost invisible oligopoly• How our government gives hidden subsidies for posh golf courses• How Paris Hilton’s grandfather schemed to retake the family fortune from a charity for poor children• How the Yankees and Mets owners will collect more than $1.3 billion in public funds In these instances and many more, Free Lunch shows how the lobbyists and lawyers representing the most powerful 0.1 percent of Americans manipulated our government at the expense of the other 99.9 percent. With his extraordinary reporting, vivid stories, and sharp analysis, Johnston reveals the forces that shape our everyday economic lives—and shows us how we can finally make things better.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com Eighteen years after it first hit the shelves and having sold more than 10 million copies, What to Expect When You're Expecting is still on nearly every mother-to-be's reading list. This completely revised and updated edition is packed with answers to hundreds of questions and worries expectant parents may have. The information is presented in a month-by-month format starting with planning a pregnancy and choosing a practitioner, and follows through to six weeks after delivery. Each chapter begins with an explanation of what to expect at a particular month's prenatal visit and a brief description of how mom and baby are growing and changing before getting to the heart of the matter: What You May Be Concerned About. Topics are presented as questions ranging from "Should I be taking vitamins?" to "What if I forget everything I learn in childbirth education class?" to "Will I be able to breastfeed?" The answers are generally reassuring and provide enough information to soothe a worried mom between prenatal visits. Despite the reassuring answers, however, the sheer volume of worries discussed may alarm an otherwise calm mom-to-be.
The book also features a complete nutrition plan (though many women may find it difficult to follow), a special chapter just for expectant dads, and extensive information about dealing with minor illnesses, chronic conditions, and pregnancy complications. What to Expect has guided countless women through their pregnancies and makes an informative addition to the mainstream pregnancy and childbirth bookshelf. --Jennifer Lindsay
From Publishers Weekly This revised third edition of the popular pregnancy guide offers the authoritative yet reassuring advice that parents have come to rely on from all the titles in the What to Expect series. The book is arranged by month, from pregnancy test through labor and delivery. Each section offers answers to frequently asked questions, along with features such as "What You May Be Feeling" and "What You May Be Concerned About." Every imaginable issue is addressed, including the small but nagging subjects that women may not want to discuss with their doctors, such as how their bodies will look at seven months, or why some pregnant women "glow" while others have acne. While readers who already own this book won't have to rush to buy the new edition, the revised volume does offer a number of excellent expanded sections and illustrations, including a more detailed discussion of postpartum depression. There are also new illustrations and more text on breast-feeding, with diagrams showing different feeding positions. The travel section offers specific suggestions for "jettisoning jet lag" in addition to standard advice on traveling while pregnant. This book remains an indispensable guide for pregnant women and their partners.
From Library Journal First published in 1984, this has become the favorite resource of pregnant women. Written by Arlene Eisenberg, who died last year, and her daughters Heidi Murkoff and Sandee Hathaway, this third edition is completely revised and updated. The woman on the cover still sits in a rocking chair, but she now wears pants, clogs, and a fashionable haircut. Inside, readers will find completely new illustrations and 175 additional pages. The most current information about birthing options, nutrition, changes in appearance, choosing healthcare practitioners, and multiple births is here, along with new in-depth coverage of complementary and alternative medical therapies, postpartum depression, dealing with managed care, and working while pregnant. The authors also discuss subsequent pregnancies and offer an expanded section on the father's role. The book retains its user-friendly accessible question-and-answer format. Planning for conception, a month-by month guide to pregnancy, the postpartum period, and special concerns such as illness, chronic conditions, complications and pregnancy loss receive thorough treatment. An appendix features common tests, nondrug treatments, calorie and fat requirements and resources. Better than ever, still a classic, and a fitting memorial to Eisenberg, this new edition is highly recommended for all collections (Not everyone is a fan: Naomi Wolfe's Misconceptions and Sandra Steingraber's Having Faith are a bit critical of the book's cheery attitude.Ed.) Barbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L. Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Customer Reviews
Unorganized When my wife got pregnant, this is what she heard was the best book to get. As an avid reader and seeing a volume of "What to Expect" books, I rushed to purchase it. While it helped solve some of our preliminary questions, afterwards it did nothing but instill fear into our minds. The book is not really organized in any reasonable way to ascertain the answers to specific questions, unless you want to wade through the index. It does answer many questions you might have, but it is impossible to find the answers sometimes. I was looking forward to a book that would really explain what to expect during each week or pregnancy, but I found this simply a huge FAQ book. I think it is best to just be read casually and not as a go to guide for certain questions you might have. I would not recommend this book and would urge you to find something more comprehensive. I hope this book gets less press as more options become available.
too much negative information You want to be happy after reading this book but it gives you so much information and is quite negative meaning the book scares you more.
Don't read it cover to cover Since this is considered to be one of the "must-have" books during pregnancy, I received a copy, pretty much to find what I expected...pages and pages of things to make you think that, at any moment, something could be seriously wrong with your pregnancy. Same goes for the "...First Year" book from the same author. No matter the topic, pregnancy paranoia can set in, making the interpretation traumatic. It is nice to have for very basic reference, such as how big the baby is getting, what to expect at appointments, and if you have a specific concern, although I found that with both the pregnancy and first year books, anything that makes you concerned enough to look it up is answered in a way that can make you concerned enough to call the doctor, unless you are able to keep things in perspective or have someone else to keep you in check. If you do not fit into one of those categories and get it, read just the first few pages for each month, then shut it immediately to keep your sanity!

World With out End -> Get it NoW !

World Without End By Ken Follett

Product Description
Ken Follett has 90 million readers worldwide. The Pillars of the Earth is his bestselling book of all time. Now, eighteen years after the publication of The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett has written the most-anticipated sequel of the year, World Without End. In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, a sweeping epic novel set in twelfth-century England centered on the building of a cathedral and many of the hundreds of lives it affected. Critics were overwhelmed--"it will hold you, fascinate you, surround you" (Chicago Tribune)--and readers everywhere hoped for a sequel. World Without End takes place in the same town of Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building the exquisite Gothic cathedral that was at the heart of The Pillars of the Earth. The cathedral and the priory are again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge, but this sequel stands on its own. This time the men and women of an extraordinary cast of characters find themselves at a crossroad of new ideas--about medicine, commerce, architecture, and justice. In a world where proponents of the old ways fiercely battle those with progressive minds, the intrigue and tension quickly reach a boiling point against the devastating backdrop of the greatest natural disaster ever to strike the human race--the Black Death. Three years in the writing, and nearly eighteen years since its predecessor, World Without End breathes new life into the epic historical novel and once again shows that Ken Follett is a masterful author writing at the top of his craft.

T is for Trespass -> Get it NoW !

T is for Trespass (Kinsey Millhone Mysteries)By Sue Grafton

Product Description
tres¥pass \'trespes\ n: a transgression of law involving one's obligations to God or to one's neighbor; a violation of moral law; an offense; a sin-Webster's New International Dictionary, Second Edition, Unabridged In what may be her most unsettling novel to date, Sue Grafton's T is for Trespass is also her most direct confrontation with the forces of evil. Beginning slowly with the day-to-day life of a private eye, Grafton suddenly shifts from the voice of Kinsey Millhone to that of Solana Rojas, introducing readers to a chilling sociopath. Rojas is not her birth name. It is an identity she cunningly stole, an identity that gives her access to private caregiving jobs. The true horror of the novel builds with excruciating tension as the reader foresees the awfulness that lies ahead. The suspense lies in whether Millhone will realize what is happening in time to intervene. Though set in the late eighties, T is for Trespass could not be more topical: identity theft; elder abuse; betrayal of trust; the breakdown in the institutions charged with caring for the weak and the dependent. It reveals a terrifying but all-too-real rip in the social fabric. Once again, Grafton opens up new territory with startling results.

Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain: -> Get it NoW !

Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain: How a New Science Reveals Our Extraordinary Potential to Transform OurselvesBy Sharon Begley

Product Description
In this fascinating and far-reaching book, Newsweek science writer Sharon Begley reports on how cutting-edge science and the ancient wisdom of Buddhism have come together to reveal that, contrary to popular belief, we have the power to literally change our brains by changing our minds. Recent pioneering experiments in neuroplasticity–the ability of the brain to change in response to experience–reveal that the brain is capable of altering its structure and function, and even of generating new neurons, a power we retain well into old age. The brain can adapt, heal, renew itself after trauma, compensate for disabilities, rewire itself to overcome dyslexia, and break cycles of depression and OCD. And as scientists are learning from studies performed on Buddhist monks, it is not only the outside world that can change the brain, so can the mind and, in particular, focused attention through the classic Buddhist practice of mindfulness. With her gift for making science accessible, meaningful, and compelling, Sharon Begley illuminates a profound shift in our understanding of how the brain and the mind interact and takes us to the leading edge of a revolution in what it means to be human.“There are two great things about this book. One is that it shows us how nothing about our brains is set in stone. The other is that it is written by Sharon Begley, one of the best science writers around. Begley is superb at framing the latest facts within the larger context of the field. . . . This is a terrific book.”–Robert M. Sapolsky, author of Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers“Excellent . . . elegant and lucid prose . . . an open mind here will be rewarded.”–Discover magazine“A strong dose of hope along with a strong does of science and Buddhist thought.”–The San Diego Union-Tribune

The Green Book -> Get it NoW !

The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time By Elizabeth Rogers, Thomas M. Kostigen

Product Description
Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Redford, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Aniston, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Martha Stewart, Tyra Banks, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Tiki Barber, Owen Wilson, and Justin Timberlake tell you how they make a difference to the environment.
Inside The Green Book, find out how you can too: - Don't ask for ATM receipts. If everyone in the United States refused their receipts, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the equator fifteen times! - Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth. You'll conserve up to five gallons of water per day. Throughout the entire United States, the daily savings could add up to more water than is consumed every day in all of New York City. - Get a voice-mail service for your home phone. If all answering machines in U.S. homes were replaced by voice-mail services, the annual energy savings would total nearly two billion kilowatt hours. The resulting reduction in air pollution would be equivalent to removing 250,000 cars from the road for a year!
With wit and authority, authors Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas Kostigen provide hundreds of solutions for all areas of your life, pinpointing the smallest changes that have the biggest impact on the health of our precious planet.

Atonement: A Novel By Ian McEwan

Ian McEwan’s symphonic novel of love and war, childhood and class, guilt and forgiveness provides all the satisfaction of a brilliant narrative and the provocation we have come to expect from this master of English prose. On a hot summer day in 1935, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis witnesses a moment’s flirtation between her older sister, Cecilia, and Robbie Turner, the son of a servant and Cecilia’s childhood friend. But Briony’s incomplete grasp of adult motives–together with her precocious literary gifts–brings about a crime that will change all their lives. NATIONAL BESTSELLERPULITZER PRIZE WINNERNational Book Critic's Circle Award FinalistA New York Times Notable BookOne of the Best Books of the YearThe Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, The Denver Post, The Kansas City Star, Los Angeles Times, New York, People, Rocky Mountain News, Time, The Village Voice, The Washington PostThe searing, postapocalyptic novel destined to become Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece.A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food-—and each other. The Road is the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, "each the other's world entire," are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation

Surrender Is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations -> Get it NoW !

Surrender Is Not an Option: Defending America at the United NationsBy John Bolton

Product Description
With no-holds-barred candor, the straight-talking former ambassador to the United Nations takes readers behind the scenes at the UN and the U.S. State Department and reveals why his efforts to defend American interests and reform the UN resulted in controversy. A veteran of three Republican administrations and a nominee for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, Bolton shows how the U.S. can lead the way to a more realistic global security arrangement for the twenty-first century and identifies the next generation of threats to America.
The son of a Baltimore firefighter and the first person in his family to go to college, with scholarships to Yale University and Yale Law School, John Bolton studied with preeminent conservative thinkers Robert Bork and Ralph Winter. After law school, he experienced the "Reagan Revolution" firsthand in Edwin Meese's justice department -- where the American judiciary was fundamentally reshaped. His diplomatic skills were honed working with Secretary of State James Baker during the presidency of George H. W. Bush, and serving in the administration of President George W. Bush as Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs.
In this revealing memoir, he candidly recounts his appointment in 2005 as Ambassador to the United Nations, his headline-making Senate confirmation battle, which resulted in his recess appointment, and his sixteen-month tenure at the United Nations. Bolton offers keen insight into such international crises as North Korea's nuclear test, Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, the genocide in Darfur, the monthlong negotiation that produced the controversial end of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, and more. Recounting both his successes and frustrations in taking a hard line against weapons-of-mass destruction proliferators, terrorists, and rogue states such as North Korea and Iran, he also exposes the operational inadequacies that hinder the UN's effectiveness in international diplomacy and its bias against Israel and the United States. At home, he criticizes the pernicious bureaucratic inertia in the U.S. State Department that can undermine presidential policy.
A fascinating chronicle of the career of a distinguished lawyer and diplomat who has fought to preserve American sovereignty and strength at home and abroad, Surrender Is Not an Option is the candid memoir of one of America's outstanding statesmen that is sure to become required reading for everyone interested in international affairs.

Good Dog. Stay. -> Get it NoW !

Good Dog. Stay.By Anna Quindlen

Product Description
“The life of a good dog is like the life of a good person, only shorter and more compressed,” writes Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anna Quindlen about her beloved black Labrador retriever, Beau. With her trademark wisdom and humor, Quindlen reflects on how her life has unfolded in tandem with Beau’s, and on the lessons she’s learned by watching him: to roll with the punches, to take things as they come, to measure herself not in terms of the past or the future but of the present, to raise her nose in the air from time to time and, at least metaphorically, holler, “I smell bacon!”Of the dog that once possessed a catcher’s mitt of a mouth, Quindlen reminisces, “there came a time when a scrap thrown in his direction usually bounced unseen off his head. Yet put a pork roast in the oven, and the guy still breathed as audibly as an obscene caller. The eyes and ears may have gone, but the nose was eternal. And the tail. The tail still wagged, albeit at half-staff. When it stops, I thought more than once, then we’ll know.”Heartening and bittersweet, Good Dog. Stay. honors the life of a cherished and loyal friend and offers us a valuable lesson on our four-legged family members: Sometimes an old dog can teach us new tricks.

Freakonomics -> Get it NoW !

Freakonomics [Revised and Expanded]: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of EverythingBy Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner

Product Description
Which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool? What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? Why do drug dealers still live with their moms? How much do parents really matter? How did the legalization of abortion affect the rate of violent crime?
These may not sound like typical questions for an econo-mist to ask. But Steven D. Levitt is not a typical economist. He is a much-heralded scholar who studies the riddles of everyday life—from cheating and crime to sports and child-rearing—and whose conclusions turn conventional wisdom on its head.
Freakonomics is a groundbreaking collaboration between Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, an award-winning author and journalist. They usually begin with a mountain of data and a simple question. Some of these questions concern life-and-death issues; others have an admittedly freakish quality. Thus the new field of study contained in this book: freakonomics.
Through forceful storytelling and wry insight, Levitt and Dubner show that economics is, at root, the study of incentives—how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing. In Freakonomics, they explore the hidden side of . . . well, everything. The inner workings of a crack gang. The truth about real-estate agents. The myths of campaign finance. The telltale marks of a cheating schoolteacher. The secrets of the Klu Klux Klan.
What unites all these stories is a belief that the modern world, despite a great deal of complexity and downright deceit, is not impenetrable, is not unknowable, and—if the right questions are asked—is even more intriguing than we think. All it takes is a new way of looking.
Freakonomics establishes this unconventional premise: If morality represents how we would like the world to work, then economics represents how it actually does work. It is true that readers of this book will be armed with enough riddles and stories to last a thousand cocktail parties. But Freakonomics can provide more than that. It will literally redefine the way we view the modern world.

Customer Reviews
Dilbert-a-day! Dilbert-a-day for my office husband. He brings home the best for the family to read. Great fun!
Brilliant for anyone who works in an office I give this calendar to my father every year for Christmas. He works in senior management and very much enjoys having a new Dilbert strip to read everyday and to share with his staff. When he goes away, he actually takes the pages that he is going to miss with him so that he doesn't miss reading any. He often saves hilarious and appropriate cartoons to give to my husband (who works in IT) or to me (I work in Marketing). If you work in an office environment - or have escaped from one! - this is a wonderful calendar. The other thing I appreciate about the Dilbert calendars is that there is enough material to keep them fresh. Before Dilbert, I used to give my father a Farside calendar, but after 3-4 years he noticed that some cartoons were repeating from previous years. So far this has not occurred with the Dilbert calendar. I highly recommend it.
Dilbert What more can I say, Dilbert helps us in the working world to cope by seeing humor in the workplace.

Clapton: The Autobiography -> Get it NoW !

Clapton: The Autobiography By Eric Clapton

Product Description
“I found a pattern in my behavior that had been repeating itself for years, decades even. Bad choices were my specialty, and if something honest and decent came along, I would shun it or run the other way.”With striking intimacy and candor, Eric Clapton tells the story of his eventful and inspiring life in this poignant and honest autobiography. More than a rock star, he is an icon, a living embodiment of the history of rock music. Well known for his reserve in a profession marked by self-promotion, flamboyance, and spin, he now chronicles, for the first time, his remarkable personal and professional journeys. Born illegitimate in 1945 and raised by his grandparents, Eric never knew his father and, until the age of nine, believed his actual mother to be his sister. In his early teens his solace was the guitar, and his incredible talent would make him a cult hero in the clubs of Britain and inspire devoted fans to scrawl “Clapton is God” on the walls of London’s Underground. With the formation of Cream, the world's first supergroup, he became a worldwide superstar, but conflicting personalities tore the band apart within two years. His stints in Blind Faith, in Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, and in Derek and the Dominos were also short-lived but yielded some of the most enduring songs in history, including the classic “Layla.” During the late sixties he played as a guest with Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, as well as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and longtime friend George Harrison. It was while working with the latter that he fell for George’s wife, Pattie Boyd, a seemingly unrequited love that led him to the depths of despair, self-imposed seclusion, and drug addiction. By the early seventies he had overcome his addiction and released the bestselling album 461 Ocean Boulevard, with its massive hit “I Shot the Sheriff.” He followed that with the platinum album Slowhand, which included “Wonderful Tonight,” the touching love song to Pattie, whom he finally married at the end of 1979. A short time later, however, Eric had replaced heroin with alcohol as his preferred vice, following a pattern of behavior that not only was detrimental to his music but contributed to the eventual breakup of his marriage. In the eighties he would battle and begin his recovery from alcoholism and become a father. But just as his life was coming together, he was struck by a terrible blow: His beloved four-year-old son, Conor, died in a freak accident. At an earlier time Eric might have coped with this tragedy by fleeing into a world of addiction. But now a much stronger man, he took refuge in music, responding with the achingly beautiful “Tears in Heaven.”Clapton is the powerfully written story of a survivor, a man who has achieved the pinnacle of success despite extraordinary demons. It is one of the most compelling memoirs of our time.

The Digital Photography Book -> Get it NoW !

The Digital Photography Book By Scott Kelby

Product Description
Scott Kelby, the man who changed the "digital darkroom" forever with his groundbreaking, #1 bestselling, award-winning book The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers, now tackles the most important side of digital photography--how to take pro-quality shots using the same tricks today's top digital pros use (and it's easier than you'd think). This entire book is written with a brilliant premise, and here’s how Scott describes it: "If you and I were out on a shoot, and you asked me, 'Hey, how do I get this flower to be in focus, but I want the background out of focus?' I wouldn't stand there and give you a lecture about aperture, exposure, and depth of field. In real life, I'd just say, 'Get out your telephoto lens, set your f/stop to f/2.8, focus on the flower, and fire away.' You d say, 'OK,' and you'd get the shot. That's what this book is all about. A book of you and I shooting, and I answer the questions, give you advice, and share the secrets I've learned just like I would with a friend, without all the technical explanations and without all the techno-photo-speak."This isn't a book of theory—it isn't full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts: this is a book of which button to push, which setting to use, when to use them, and nearly two hundred of the most closely guarded photographic "tricks of the trade" to get you shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos with your digital camera every time you press the shutter button. Here's another thing that makes this book different: each page covers just one trick, just one single concept that makes your photography better. Every time you turn the page, you'll learn another pro setting, another pro tool, another pro trick to transform your work from snapshots into gallery prints. There's never been a book like it, and if you're tired of taking shots that look "OK," and if you’re tired of looking in photography magazines and thinking, "Why don't my shots look like that?" then this is the book for you.
